Vitamin D and Falls
A group of researchers reviewed all studies done on reducing the risk of falls with adequate intake of Vitamin D. The group concluded that falls are reduced when persons have adequate amounts of Vitamin D. Known as the "sunshine vitamin", it is very hard to get enough of this vitamin from your diet during a Minnesota winter. Ask your health care provider about supplementation and continue to eat rich sources of calcium foods. Calcium rich foods are fortified cereals and fruit juices, dark green leafy vegetables and canned fish with soft bones.
